Obituary of John Henry O'Brien

John Henry O'Brien (Jack), of Stokesdale, NC, entered into the more immediate presence of his Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at 7:00 AM. Jack was born in Quincy, MA on November 15, 1927. He was the third child of Sherman and Gwendolyn O"Brien. Jack proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant; he took his service responsibility seriously. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Life of Virginia Insurance Agency. Then, Jack spent the remainder of his work career with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department, as he retired in 1987 with 27 years service as the Captain of the old County Jail. Among Jack's many acts of service were: Masons (50 years), Trustee of Fraternal Order of Police, Odd Fellows organization, Meals-on-Wheels, and Marine Corps League--including the Marine Honor Guard. Also, Jack served his God in a variety of ministry jobs at Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church and Flat Rock UMC in Stokesdale. Jack was pre-deceased by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one Angelic daughter Kelli O'Brien Rothrock, who surely welcomed him to heaven. He is survived by his wife Clara M. O'Brien, as well as his children: Sheila Willard (Kent), Gwen Shields (Bill), John O'Brien, Jr. (Susan), Denise Aamland (Tom), Amanda Mabe (David), Trish Odom (Joe), Becky Hester (Wayne), and son-in-law Aaron Rothrock. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Gwen Grimolizzi and Gayle Horne, and former wife, Wanda O. Kosiek. He was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and was affectionately known as Uncle Jackie by his many nieces and nephews. Jack was truly a beloved man by many people.
