Obituary of Thomas Smith Holman
Mr. Thomas Smith Holman, better known as "Tom" age 80, of Jefferson passed away Monday, December 31, 2014 at Forest Ridge Living Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Holman was born in Ashe County on March 5, 1934 to the late Freeman Hall and Martha Mae Orfield Holman. He served in the United States Navy during Korea Conflict and later joined North Carolina National Guard, where he served 17 years. Tom retired from North Carolina Department of Transportation, after 30 years. He was a dedicated member of Bristol Baptist Church. He loved his church and the members. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with his buddies and ginseng hunting. Tom always had a garden and shared it with his friends and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Holman.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Calloway Holman, of 58 years of marriage; a son, Greg Holman and wife, Linda of Jefferson; a daughter, Pam Neaves of Lexington; seven brothers, Dwight Holman and wife, Mary of Jefferson, Harold Holman and wife, Clara, of Steinhatchee, Florida; Mike Holman, and wife, Wanda, of Grundy, VA, George Holman and wife, Diane, of Sanford, Wayne Holman and wife, Judy, of Lansing, Kyle Holman and wife, Shirley, of Todd and Robbie Holman and wife, Dana, of Todd; five sisters, Anna Mae Goodman, of Jefferson, Peggy Calloway and husband, Johnny, of West Jefferson, Phyllis Holman of West Jefferson, Vivian Martin of West Jefferson and Kathy Stansberry, of Boone; two grandchildren, Brian Neaves and wife, Christine, of Lexington and Lyndsi Holman, of Jefferson; two great-grandsons, Riley Neaves and Mason Neaves, both of Lexington; a special friend, Joe Hoosier, of Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
