Mr. Thomas Henry Severt, better known as "Tom" age 88, of Jefferson, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 1PM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Elder James McNeill officiating. Burial will follow Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rite. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 6-8pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Severt was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, February 23, 1926 to the late James Sherman Severt and Vennie Miller. Tom served in the United States Army, during World War II. He later worked as a welder at Sprague, where he retired after 30 years. He also was a cattle farmer. He loved to go to Phipps Store to listen to bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carter Severt; a brother, Joe Daniel Severt; and an infant brother. Mr. Severt is survived by one sister; Mary Yearick of Great Mills, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
