Carol Gentry Sharpe, age 62, of West Jefferson died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 2PM at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Goodman officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Carol was born and reared in the Baldwin Community of Ashe County, North Carolina. She graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1970 and Wilkes Community College in 1972 and had extensive course work while employed in both of her careers. She grew up in a large family and was loved dearly as a daughter and sister. She met and married the love of her life, Dennis Sharpe, in l972. After living a short time in Statesville the family moved to Brevard. She and Dennis were thrilled with the birth of their daughter, Tara; and, Carol was a devoted stay-at-home mom until Tara started kindergarten. She worked at Brevard Elementary School for 8 years as a teaching assistant where she formed many lasting friendships and kept the entire staff "in stitches" during her tenure there. After a move back to Ashe County, she began working for Yadkin Valley Bank. Her career at the bank lasted over 20 years until she recently had to leave on long-term disability due to her 13-year battle with cancer. She was the Customer Service Representative at the Mt. Jefferson branch and formed many positive relationships with her customers. She brought commitment, and dedication to her job as well as humor and fun to the workplace. Her motto; "Make It A Good Day" was truly representative of her life. She loved people and always had a positive outlook on life. Her sense of humor and fun not only endeared her to her family but many who crossed her path during her life. She doted on her three grandchildren and was appreciated and loved so much by them. A shining light in the life of her family and friends has been extinguished temporarily until we meet again in God's eternal Home. We shall miss her dearly but will always smile with pride when we think of her or hear her name. She is survived by her husband; Dennis Sharpe, one daughter; Tara Phipps and husband Chad of Fleetwood; three brothers, Andrew Gentry and wife Gail of Todd, Will Gentry of Brevard, and Joe Gentry of Kernersville, four sisters; Betty Lewis of Todd, Helen Davis of Greensboro, Margaret Howell of Brevard, and Shirley Vannoy and husband Max of Winston Salem; three awesome grandchildren, Morgan, Ryder, and Saylor Phipps; and several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bald Mountain Baptist Church Building Fund, 1473 Bald Mountain Church Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
