Mr. Robert Dean Burgess, age 76, of West Jefferson passed away Friday night, March 6, 2015 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Calloway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Saturday, March 14, 2015 two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Burgess was born in Ashe County on October 23, 1938 to the late George Oscar and Millie Lee Bare Burgess. Robert served in the United States Air Force. He was co-owner of Burgess Furniture. His father opened the store in 1930 and the store closed in 2007. He attended First Baptist Church of West Jefferson. He had many hobbies such as coin collecting, skiing and most of all fishing. He was also a member of the Jefferson Rotary Club and Ashe County Sports Hall of Fame. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erika Wudi Burgess and a sister, Shirley Roten. Mr. Burgess is survived by two sons, Jerry Burgess, of Sherrills Ford, NC and Eric Burgess and wife, Angie, of Charlotte; two brothers, George Burgess, of West Jefferson and Wayne Burgess and wife, Becky, of West Jefferson; three sisters, Maude Shatley, of Jefferson, Hazel Barber, of Burlington and Rose Cook and husband, John, of Boone; four grandchildren, Emily Burgess, Savannah Burgess, Tyler Burgess and Courtney Greene; several nieces and nephews; also his caregivers, Illa Bryan, Maude Buchanan, Charita Cozart, Mary Jordan, Nancy Miller and Bonnie Woods also survive.
