Obituary of Kermit Wilson Dancy
The Reverend Kermit Wilson Dancy, age 75, of Jefferson, North Carolina passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, surrounded by his family at home.
The family will receive visitors at the Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson, North Carolina on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held at the Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church in West Jefferson, North Carolina on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00am with Rev. Will Hayward and Rev. Sam Marshall officiating. The internment will follow at the Dancy Family Cemetery with military honors.
Kermit was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, September 12, 1939 to the late Gilbert Wilson and Sybil Bare Dancy.
Kermit began his life of service as a cryptographer in the United States Army. A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, Kermit earned a Bachelors degree in Religion and Biblical Literature. He completed Advanced Studies in Education at the University of Delaware. Kermit continued his education at the United Theological Seminary earning a Masters Degree in Theology and completed Advance Clinical Pastoral Education in the Hennepin County Hospital and Mentally Health Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Kermit spent 47 years in ministry pastoring churches in Illinois, Iowa, and Greenville, Michigan before returning to his birthplace, the farm that has been in his family since the early 1800's. Kermit spend his final 21 years in service to the Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church, in West Jefferson, North Carolina and was granted the honor of Pastor Emeritus upon his retirement in December 2004.
Kermit's spirit of adventure led him to explore the world of travel with his wife Judy. Whether soaring among the clouds as he piloted a small aircraft, driving the MG convertible with the top down, or hitting the open road on his motorcycle, Kermit was able to discover the beauty of the continental United States, Alaska, and the Provinces of Canada.
Kermit is survived by his wife, of nearly 54 years, Judith Anne Neiderhiser Dancy; daughter Kelly Anne Dancy Martin and spouse, Kevin, of Kernersville; sons Michael Conrad Dancy, of Purlear and John Mark Dancy and spouse, Scotty, of North Wilkesboro: a sister, Phyllis Boshart and spouse, Dean, of Newark, Delaware; a brother Conrad Dancy and spouse, Linda, of Winter Springs, Florida; five grandchildren, Katharen Anne Martin-Hill and spouse, Keith Weill Hill, Lynsey Ann Dancy, Alexander Wilson Dancy and Lauren Amelia Shepherd Dancy; several nieces and nephews also survive.
