Obituary of Imajean Weaver

Mrs. Imajean Hoppers Weaver, better known as "Jeannie" age 93, of West Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon, August 28, 2015 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11am at West Jefferson Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Imajean "Jeannie" Weaver enjoyed life and all it had to offer in the way of teaching, learning, and serving others. She attended Greensboro Women's College and later transferred to Appalachian State Teacher's College for her education. After college, she taught at Jefferson High School and later at Fleetwood School. She was well remembered by her students for years following her retirement, and later enjoyed being with her students at their reunions and get-togethers. She was a Home Economics teacher at one time and was an excellent cook. She loved flowers, especially pansies, and spent many hours setting out flowers at the family farmhouse, where she loved to offer good food and fellowship. She was a loyal member of several civic organizations, including the Jefferson Woman's Club, the Ashe County Homemakers' Club, later called the Extension and Community Association. She was a faithful longtime member of the local Cancer Support Group, the NARFE, and the Retired Teachers Association. One of her favorite groups was the Delta Kappa Gamma, which she was proud to serve in various different capacities. With all the pleasure Jeannie gained from all these associations, her greatest love, next to her family, was her membership at First Baptist Church in West Jefferson. She worked with the Girls' Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School, and Women's Mission Union, and was a longtime loyal member of the Grace Dean Sunday School Class. She delighted in going on trips with the Taste Buddies to plays, restaurants, and other outings. She, along with Reverend Rexford Campbell and Hazel Wiles, created the first library in the church, which grew and expanded over the years, much to her delight. And she never tired of creating things. Tole painting and basket weaving were two of her most favorite creative crafts. But all of these are pale in comparison to her love for her husband of 67 years, John, and her children and grandchildren. We celebrate a beloved friend, whose 93 plus years were filled with a yearning for learning, ideas and new adventures. Her family wants to thank all the loving and caring health professionals at Ashe Memorial Hospital, Mount Jefferson Family Medicine and her extended family at Forrest Ridge that pours out so much love and care for Mom & Dad. Mom sends her love and thanks to all! Mrs. Weaver is survived by her husband; John A. Weaver, Jr., one son; John A. Weaver III and wife Alice of Johnson City, TN, one daughter; Shonean Shatley and husband J.R. of West Jefferson, one brother; Dewey Hoppers and wife Joan of White Head, NC, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. No food please!
