Mrs. Rena Jones Goodman, age 89 of Todd, NC passed away on Thursday, February 4th, at Watauga Medical Center surrounded by her children. She was born June 19th, 1926 to Belle & Allen Jones, into a family of 11 brothers and sisters, all deceased. Rena is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Kenny Goodman. Rena & Kenny were the proprietors of Goodman's Grocery, now famously known as Todd General Store which is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Together they owned and operated the store from 1957 to 1982 and were known throughout the community for their warmth and generosity. Rena's humorous ability to tell stories and entertain children with her bubbly and mischievous personality will be remembered by many. She will also be remembered for her sparkling eyes, contagious laugh, beautiful smile and warm and loving heart. Rena is survived by 5 children; Diana Krider and husband, Jimmy of Todd, NC; Raymond Goodman and wife, Jan of Conway, SC; Keith Goodman and wife Laura of Todd, NC; Derek Goodman and wife Charity of West Jefferson, NC., and Loretta Bennett and partner Robert, of Todd, NC. There are 7 grandchildren; Jeffrey and Jason Krider, Kevin, Tyler, Kenny, Charlie and Jacob Goodman. There are also 4 great grandchildren; Hannah, Jackson, Zoey and Griffin Krider. The family would like to give a special "thank you" to Caldwell County Hospice and the medical staff at Watauga County Hospital in Boone, NC for all their loving kindness and devoted care that each one gave in helping our Mother and the family find comfort during this difficult time Services will be held at Southfork Baptist Church where Rena was a devoted member on Saturday, Februrary 6th. Family visitation will begin at 1:00 o'clock till 3:00 o'clock. Funeral services will immediately follow with the Reverend Homer Murdock and Reverend David Cooper presiding. Rena's final place of rest will be in the Goodman family cemetery located on Hwy 194. Food is appreciated but not necessary; if so desired, please bring to the church to be distributed among the family.
