Mr. Campbell was a fine man and a wonderful Math teacher and principal. He was easy to talk to and his faith in God was always evident in any conversations we had when I was in school. He will be remembered. I send my most heartfelt condolences to his loving family and I am praying for God's comfort as his family grieves this loss.

I was a student of Mr. Campbell's in the late 60's. I remember him as an excellent math teacher and school principal that cared very much for all the students at Ashe Central. I much credit his teaching and guidance for helping me to go on to college and become an engineer. My condolences on your loss, it was truly a loss for the whole county and for the many of us whose lives he touched.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.

Dear Colleen, Chris, Rob, and family,
I have such wonderful memories of Darrell! He was my Algebra II teacher, my principal, my neighbor, and most importantly, my friend. As we lived immediately across the road from one another in Jefferson, I would often pull up a chair along side Darrell, in his garage, and "solve the problems of the world."
In my opinion, Darrell could have never lived as long and as strong as he did without the great and watchful care of Colleen. What a loving wife and help meet you were, Colleen. I'm sure there are no regrets there!
I pray you know God's peace and strength at this time of grief and loss.

Dear Family,
Words cannot express the gratitude and thankfulness I have for having been a student of Mr. Campbell. He taught me so many lessons that I used in future classes, but more importantly lessons used in life and in my own classroom. I can honestly say he was the best teacher of my student career and his influences still affect me as a teacher in working with the students I teach today. He truly understood the importance of a good education, but, as he would share with his students, there was one eclipsing issue of the importance of the Lord in our daily lives and how that relationship affected the way we treat others. He taught this in words, but more so in the way he lived his life. Everyone respected Mr. Campbell for what he believed and the way he treated others.
I know all who knew him will miss him and his departure leaves an incredible void. However, we all know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and we truly haven’t lost someone when we know where they are. We know Mr. Campbell is home with the Lord he loved. My deepest sympathies to the family. May the Lord bless you all.

Colleen, Chris, Heather, Abigail, Rob, Tricia, Molly, Madison, extended family and loved ones,
We are heart broken at your loss of a fine Christian man that you were blessed to call family. Darrell was a good man that loved his Lord, family, country, community and Tar Heels! He was gifted as a kind educator, excellent gardener, US Veteran of WW2, creative poet and more. Memories of Darrell are of his firm belief in Christ, church activities, hard working man that never stopped working. His love for his family was evident in his calm loving stories and time spent with them. We feel fortunate to have been included in the many family activities of our combined families. Darrell was such a compassionate "Papa", that always took interest in the activities of his beloved grandchildren, Molly, Madison and Abigail. May Christ hold you closely in his loving arms. You are in our constant thought and prayers. Jim and Patricia H Childress

Mr. Campbell was not only my favorite teacher he was also one of my favorite people I've ever met and he truly changed my life. I enjoyed being able to visit him when I was able to visit Jefferson and he was always his kind gentle self with his sense of humor and deep spiritual insight! He had shared with me how he had (what would now be called a near death experience ) and how he didn't fear death but knew The Lord Jesus was there and there was peace and joy there. The first day I ever met Mr. Campbell was my freshman year at ACHS and he told us that our relationship to Jesus Christ was the most important thing in life and our education was the next most important! I will never forget this or never forget Mr. Campbell! May God be with Colleen, Chris and Robbie during this difficult time of loss but may the peace that passeth understanding be with your hearts and minds and may you continue to know that we will be reunited with this great man of God!

I am so sorry. Mr. Campbell was a special man. He exhibited kindness and compassion, wisdom, generosity and friendship as a teacher. it's been over 20 years since I had the privilege of being in one of Mr. Campbell's classes, but I have distinct memories of his ability to inspire every student to do his best. I am certain that his passing leaves an unimaginable hole in your family, but his presence for the time that you had him was unimaginably blessed.
