Mr. Joseph Curtis Gentry, Sr., age 82, of Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon, March 24, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Rev. David Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Gentry was born in Ashe County on May 24, 1934 to the late Floyd and Bertha Lewis Gentry. He was a member at Bristol Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. He served in the Army in Iraq during 1990-1991 and retired from Army National Guard. He loved to fish and also tell jokes. Joseph also enjoyed playing the banjo and harmonica. Joe always had a smile on his face and was a wonderful to be around. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be missed by all. Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Kathy Gentry; two sons, Curtis Gentry and wife Donna of West Jefferson, Bradley Shaye Gentry and wife Amy of Jefferson, two daughters; Robin Williams and husband Roger of Thomasville, and Laurencene Dillard and husband Mark of Jonesville, two brothers; John Gentry and wife Shirley of Jefferson, and Tobe Gentry of Jefferson, two sisters; Wanda Jones and husband Kyle of Kernersville, and Imagene Stevens and husband Wade of Jefferson, two grandchildren; Justin Mathis, and wife Brandi, Jamie Barker and wife Angel, five great-grandchildren; Lukas Gentry, Leah Gentry, Kelbie Gentry, Natalie Mathis, and Autumn; several nieces and nephews also survive.
