Mr. Lake Carpenter age 86, of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. Steve LeaShomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Carpenter-Fairview Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Carpenter was born in Ashe County on April 22, 1930 to the late Lida David and Minnie Rosetta Ham Carpenter. Lake served in the United States Army. He worked in construction in Pennsylvania building bridges. He enjoyed fishing, camping and crabbing. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Swift Carpenter; a sister, Betty Lou Roark; three brothers, Darrel York Carpenter, Cecil Carroll (Buck) Carpenter and Cyril George Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter is survived by a step son, Altas Hinton and wife, Sandy, of Boonville, Indiana; a brother, Allen Carpenter, of Lansing; three sisters, Shirley Calhoun, of West Jefferson, Mable Ham and Jeanette Ham, both of Maryland; several nieces and nephews also survive.
