Mr. Richard Jay Hasard, age 74, of Laurel Springs passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 31, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11AM St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father James Stuhrenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Cemetery. A reception will follow the funeral service. Mr. Hasard was born in Orlean, New York on June 12, 1943 to the late Ira and Frieda Schmidt Hasard. He retired from the school system in New York, where he taught, was the Athletic Director, a Principle and the main Coach for football for many years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jefferson. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Ann Hasard and Betty Hasard; a grandson, Jacob. Mr. Hasard is survived by his wife, Kathryn Gillett Hasard; two sons, Richard Hasard, of Machias, New York and Mark Hasard of Franklinville, New York; a step son, Christopher McNell, of Ellicottville, Kentucky; a step daughter, Collette McNell, of Blowing Rock; a brother, Robert Hasard, of Eldred, PA; six grandchildren; a great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.
