Obituary of Carl Francis Roten

Carl Francis Roten, age 83 of Deep Gap, passed away Tuesday morning, October 30, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 59 years, Celia Graham Roten, his daughter, Cara Roten-Henson and son, Ivan Carl Roten.

Mr. Roten was born in Ashe County on August 27, 1935 to the late Francis Marion and Hettie Ham Roten. He retired from teaching math at Watauga High School in 1990. Since then he has moved to his farm in Deep Gap and raised Simmental beef cattle. Over the years he enjoyed exhibiting his Percheron draft horses and beef cattle, plus growing a large garden with his wife Celia. His grandsons Graham and Marshal Roten were the light of his life. He attended Laurel Springs Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; he will be missed by all.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Roten and Buel Roten.

He is survived by his wife, Celia Graham Roten; a son, Ivan Carl Roten and wife, Dana, of Boone; a daughter, Cara Roten-Henson and husband, Rusty, of Vilas; three brothers, Vernon Roten and wife, Lena Ruth, of West Jefferson, Woodrow Roten, of California and Conley Roten and wife, Brenda, of Warrensville; a sister, Ruby Whittington and husband, Jack, of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Graham Roten, of Boone and Marshal Roten of Boone; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00pm at Laurel Springs Baptist Church, 7504 Hwy 421 S., in Deep Gap. Rev. Travis Suits and Rev.Darrell Graybeal will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Roten-Graybeal Cemetery, 3875 West Mill Creek Rd., in Warrensville.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm, prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are: Joe, Jim, George and Robert Roten, Mike McCoy and Richard Woods.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roten-Graybeal Cemetery, 264 Ridgewood Rd., Deep Gap, NC 28618.
