Mrs. Shirley Ann Shaw Howell, age 81, of West Jefferson passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2018 at her daughter's home in Wilkesboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00pm at Boone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Elledge, Dr. Rev. Jim Rash and Rev. J.D. Walton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bald Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Howell was born in Ashe County on August 4, 1937 to the late Charlie Edward and Alice Blevins Shaw. She worked in textile plants in Ashe County. She was a member of Bald Mountain Baptist Church. Shirley enjoyed working word search puzzles, playing Rook with her friends and watching game shows on TV. She loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving mother; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband. J.D. Howell on October 12, 2004; two sisters, Alta Jones and Wylene Testerman. Mrs. Howell is survived by a daughter, Nancy Severt and husband, Larry, of Wilkesboro; a sister, Nancy Wilkinson of Louieville, Kentucky; a brother, Gerald Shaw, of Woodruff, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be appreciated.
