Obituary of Glenda Ann Allen

Mrs. Glenda Ann Allen, age 81, of Creston, passed away Tuesday morning, February 12, 2019 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Boone Family Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm immediately following the visitation with Rev. Darrell Graybeal and Rev. Steven Allen officiating.  Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Glenda was born in Ashe County on September 13, 1937 to the late Rufus Bruce and Clara Graybeal.  Glenda was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Sidney.  Glenda and Sidney raised their family in Maryland and looked forward to returning to Ashe County for their retirement years.  Prior to retirement, Glenda spent many years working in the elementary schools in Harford County, Maryland.  She loved gardening, quilting, reading, and puzzles.  Glenda enjoyed working with the young children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School through the years and she was actively involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons International.  She also volunteered at the Riverview Community Center and with Ashe Outreach Ministries, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Allen and wife, Andrea, of Havre de Grace, Maryland and Steven Allen and wife, Monica, of Jefferson; two daughters, Mary Joyce Bland and husband, David, of Columbia, South Carolina and Elaine Jones and husband, David, of Frostburg, Maryland; two sisters, Frances Farmer of Creston, and Joyce Walter and husband, Frank, of Snow Camp, North Carolina; two brothers, Darrell Graybeal and wife, Mildred, of Creston and Thomas Carlyle Graybeal of Boone; sisters-in-law, Mona Barlow of Bel Air, Maryland, and Margaret Allen and Myrtle Prince of Creston. Ten grandchildren and a loving extended family including many nieces and nephews also survive.
