Obituary of Ruth E. Podges
Mrs. Ruth Stancliff-Podges, age 92, passed away Friday evening, March 8, 2019.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 am, at Boone Family Funeral Home, 2005 Mount Jefferson Rd., West Jefferson, NC 28694 with Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial will follow at Bald Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Saturday, March 16, 2019, one hour prior to the service.
Ruth Elizabeth Trivett was born on April 13, 1926 to William C. Trivett and Allie Josephine Walton in Beaver Creek, NC. Survived by her daughter, Madelyn (Robert) Fair of Liberty Twp. OH; two granddaughters, Rebecca (Todd) Hayes of West Chester, OH and Loretta (John) Racho of Ispwich, MA; six great-grandchildren: Jerimy, Jessica, Hunter, Haley and Chloe Hayes and Isabella Racho; husband, Erwin Podges of Morganton, NC; brother, Grover Truitt Trivett of Todd, NC; sister-in-law, Norma Scott Houck of Leesburg, VA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by former husbands, Mack Scott of Todd, NC and Joseph Stancliff of West Jefferson, NC and nine siblings.
Graduating from West Jefferson, NC High School in 1944, Ruth was the first of her family to graduate. She was recruited out of high school to work for the FBI in Washington D.C. as a clerk typist for a few years then moved to Bedford, OH, and worked at Stalwart Rubber in the accounting office for 27 years. After retiring she moved back to West Jefferson, NC in 1978. For the past 17 years she resided in Morganton, NC in the summer and Florida in the winter until she moved to Fairfield, OH in August 2018, to be close to her family.
Ruth was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for 67 years and served faithfully in various layman rolls in Bedford, OH and West Jefferson, NC. She was passionate about missions and music. She loved to sing, which began at age 5 and continued throughout her life, even joining the choir at the retirement center where she resided and passed away. She loved Jesus and prayed daily for her family, friends and church. Her favorite scripture was John 14:1-3.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the mission department of either Morganton Wesleyan Church, where she attended for 17 years, located at 2111 Stacy Street, Morganton, NC 28655 or Springdale Church of the Nazarene where she was a member since August 2018, located at 11177 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45246.
