Obituary of Emmet Alton Barker

Mr. Emmet Alton Barker, age 89, of Jefferson passed away Thursday morning, May 23, 2019 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve LeaShomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends from 11-1pm on Saturday; two hours prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Barker was born in Ashe County on September 28, 1929 to the late William and Pearl Hamby Barker. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After service, he ran Barkers Paint and Body Shop. He attended Midway Baptist Church. Emmet was always willing to help his family and friends out; always had a smile on his face. He was very active right until his sickness.

Mr. Barker was a friendly soul who never met a stranger. He enjoyed collecting vintage car tags and other antiques. Most of the time you could find him at the “garage” with the boys.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Wylene Blevins Barker; his twin sons, Ronnie and Randy Barker; his brothers, Lee Barker, Fred Barker, Gene Barker, and Millard Barker.

Mr. Barker is survived by: four grandchildren, Heather Peters and husband, Marty, of Crumpler, Nathan Barker and wife, Candace, of Deep Gap, Callie Lewis and husband, Dalton, of Jefferson and Luke Barker, of Jefferson; three great-grandchildren, Harper and Hadley Peters, of Crumpler and Silas Barker, of Deep Gap;  daughter-in-law, Nancy Barker; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wallace Cemetery, C/O Maude Goodman, 1069 Old Hwy 16, Jefferson, NC 28640.

The family will be meeting at the home of Nancy Barker, 963 Ashe Park Road, Jefferson, NC 28640.
