I feel lucky to have met Deforrest a few years ago as I was working on Cabbage Creek bird conservation. We talked for hours, and he even pulled out some scrapbook memories to share with me. I laugh thinking that I might still be there talking if a snowstorm hadn't come quickly over the mountain coating the roads in white! RIP Deforrest.

I have enjoyed knowing and talking to Frosty for all the years I lived in Creston. Though I am in Lansing now, I still got to visit with him occasionally at the fire dept. I will miss his humor, stories, and kindness.

Frosty was the best storyteller I knew but most of his stories were probably true life events with a little bit of exaggerating I guess but he loved to talk and he was entertaining to listen to as long as you weren't in a hurry. He didnt seem to ever get in a hurry. Just enjoyed life and people. If you took a kid into his store in creston you could be sure they were given a treat. He loved kids and that's one thing we had in common. He was surely a wonderful babysitter for his grandchildren. Such a friendly talkative down to earth country man. I will never forget him.RIP FROSTY.

Dear Friends,
Word of DeForrest's death brings me deep sadness. When I was pastor at Creston UMC, he was superintendent of our Sunday School and one of those genuine lay persons we all counted on as a local church leader. I send each of you my love and gratitude in all these days of sorrow and loss. Also, in my youth, when we visited our grandparents at Rich Hill, the minister on those Sundays would often be the late beloved Reverend Joe McCoy, DeForrest's dad, who was a memorable area Methodist preacher in the "wonderful yesterdays". I hold each of you and all whom you hold dear in my prayers and in my heart--ever. May God bless! John Duvall, UMC pastor, WNC Conference, retired.
