Obituary of Cynthia Gale Dixon

Mrs. Cynthia Ward Dixon, age 62, of Laurel Springs passed away the evening of July 4, 2019 at her home. Cynthia was born in Ashland, Kentucky April 19, 1957 to the late Bernard Alvin and Myrtice Ogle Ward. In addition to her parents Cynthia was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Soffe, brother-in-law, John Soffe and brother-in-law, Michael Rhodes.

Cynthia is survived by her husband John, daughter Heather Furr (Beth) of Wilmington, NC; sister Brenda Krolak (John) of Atlanta, Georgia, nieces Jennifer, Jill, Joy Julie and Diana and nephews Brandon and John, special friends Joanna, Debbie, Jennifer, Claudia, Deborah Lee and Her special caregiver and surrogate mother Betty.

Cynthia was a true renaissance woman. She was a talented artist with original oil and acrylic paintings displayed in galleries in Asheville, Winston-Salem, North Wilkesboro, Boone and West Jefferson. Her paintings covered all styles, from still life to abstract to landscapes and portraits. Cynthia was an accomplished musician and played the flute, piccolo, alto saxophone, piano and recently began learning the guitar. Cynthia was an aerobic and Zumba instructor and taught classes at Mountain Hearts up to her passing.

Although painting was a large part of her life, being outside working in her gardens and landscaping was her true passion. From the time she was a little girl she had a flower garden. Cynthia designed her and John's beautiful retirement home and all the gardens and landscaped area surrounding it. Before her illness you would see her any day creating new landscaped areas with her Kubota tractor/backhoe, planting new perennials and shrubs or trimming the areas with her weedeater dressed in all her protective garb.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brenda, Gloria, Terry, Josh, Dave and all the wonderful staff at Medi-Home Hospice for their care and support over the last two years.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Schwandt officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
