I have just now seen this obituary. In looking up my former classmate Jim Payne I looked up Fair as well. I knew both Jim and Fair when we were all students at Lees-McRae Jr. College. I liked both Jim and Fair. I remember Fair so fondly as she was such a sweet and kind person. I am so sorry to see that they are both gone now. Best thoughts to all the family. My love and my prayers surround all of us who loved this special, most cheerful lady. For several years, Fair served joyfully with us at The Listening Post at Appalachian State University. What a joy she was in this ministry! Always cheerful, her eyes twinkling merrily, she loved to engage our young visitors in conversation and always made sure they ate an apple or, at least some pretzels or a cookie or two. She could not sit still and wait for visitors to come to us; she'd jump up from behind the table, bright red apple in hand and "accost" passersby with a hearty, "Have an apple??" Ahhhh, Fair, my precious friend, I am so fortunate to have walked a few miles with you toward our ultimate Post. Our world is a little bit emptier without your lively love. Jinx Miller

My prayers go out to Fair's family.
What a wonderful friend and neighbor - Fair Payne! I give thanks for Fair's life and for the privilege of knowing her. When my sister (Karen) and I were small Fair and her sister Nan were some of our baby sitters. Her parents and my parents were good friends over the years. It was a blessing to have encountered a portion of this journey together. RIP Fair!

I worked with Fair. Well I have to be honest we played together at Appalachian Internal Medicine. Fair was fun to be with . She had a sincere and good heart. I still remember some of our pranks. Lots of good memories. God bless

I just saw Fair a few weeks ago at therapy and she was all smiles as usual. She was very good to my mom and dad Tom and Winnie Tyler from church. After my mom passed away and my dad was battling cancer she was so kind and so much help. She would take him to treatments in Boone and come check on him while I was working. She told me when I saw her, that you just keep going and the rest the Lord had. She will be missed.
