Mr. James Clifford Kemp, better known as "J.C.", age 76, of West Jefferson passed away Monday morning, May 25, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Jones and Speaker Mark Hodgson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kemp-Lewis Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Kemp was born in Ashe County on June 25, 1943 to the late Henry "Clifford" and Chessie Marie Brown Kemp. He was a self-employed roofer. JC was a member of Flat Grove Baptist Church. He also played in church through out North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. He played with bands such as: Mountain Echoes and Fellowship Quartet. He was a godly man and a loving husband. He will be missed by all. Mr. Kemp is survived by: his wife, Lynn Bare Kemp; a brother-in-law, Benny Bare and wife, Janet, of West Jefferson; a sister-in-law, Rachel Craven and husband, Roy, of Jefferson; a special friend, Mable Segraves, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
