Mr. Ray Allen Poe, age 78, of Lansing, the Long Branch Community passed away Monday morning, May 3, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Francis, Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Poe was born in Ashe County on April 11, 1932 to the late Lee Roy Poe and Laura Eldreth Poe. He retired from Sprague Electric Company. He was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. He sung for over 40 years with Mountain Echoes and Fellowship Quartet. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Warren Poe, of the home; three sons, Dennis Poe and wife, Brenda, of Lansing, Tim Poe and wife, Beverly, of Lansing and Johnny Poe and wife, Sommer, of West Jefferson; two daughters, Sue Barker and husband, Butch, of Lansing and Diane Guy and husband, Bill, of Crumpler; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
