Mrs. Hannelore Doerr, better known as Lora, age 81, of Friendship Baptist Church Road, Jefferson passed away Sunday morning, June 26, 2010 at her home. She was born September 3, 1928 in Karlsruhe, Germany. She is the adopted daughter of the late Jakop Conrads and Erna Margarette Mueller. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00am at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Billy Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, one hour prior to the memorial service. Mrs. Doerr was an active member of the Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church in West Jefferson and was active with the German-American community in the Ashe County area. She will always be remembered for her spotless house, hospitality and wonderful German cooking and baking. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, shopping, traveling, camping and she loved animals. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Ewald "Ed" Doerr, of Jefferson; two sons, Gunther Doerr and wife, Nanette, of Boone and Gary Doerr of Helena, Montana; two grandchildren, Karen Doerr, of Chicago and Karl Doerr, of Raleigh and she has three surviving cousins in Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Doerr and her husband immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1953; they lived in south Florida until 2002, when they moved to Jefferson.
