Mrs. Maybelle (May) Marie Kareis Darling, age 86 of Jefferson passed away on Sunday morning, November 16, 2008 at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson. Mrs. Darling was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Hugo Harry and Laura Wesche Kareis. She was a seventh grade school teacher for twenty-five years. After retiring from teaching, she taught piano lessons for over twenty years. She was a charter member at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fayettville, NC. She served at the church as the past choir director and organist. Mrs. Darling was also preceded in death by her husband of forty nine years, Claude Levi Darling and two sons, Steve and Levi Darling. She is survived by one daughter, Kareis Wagner and husband Hugh of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Laura Calhoun and husband Danny of West Jefferson, John Darling of Fayettville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Osowitt and Leah Calhoun both of West Jefferson.
