Clair Roten Riddle, age 88, of West Jefferson, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Boone. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Phoenix Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Dollar and Rev. Ken Furches officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday, two hours prior to the funeral service at the church. Mrs. Riddle was born in Ashe County on Saturday, February 24, 1923 to the late Henry and Hattie Jones Roten. She was a Homemaker. She was a member of Phoenix Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and caring for people. She loved to have her stovetop full of food and have as many crock pots as possible going, to feed as many as she could. She had a great satisfaction in helping people in the community and the church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Riddle on April 13, 1990; a brother, Quincy Roten and four sisters. She is survived by a son, Harold Riddle and wife, Karen, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Carol Woodie and husband, Jimmy, of Benson, NC; a sister, Delray Jones, of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Tammy Roland and husband, Kevin, of West Jefferson, Brett Woodie and wife, Joan, of Georgetown, Kentucky and Travis Woodie and wife, Michelle, of Smithfield, NC; five great-grandchildren, Brad Woodie, Heather Woodie, Ceira Woodie, Justin Roland and Alec Roland; several nieces and nephews also survive.
