Mr. Vance Miller Roten, age 90, of Creston passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Segraves Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 2:30 P.M at the Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Dollar and Elder Eddie Lyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Roten was born in Ashe County on August 27, 1920 to the late Webb and Lula Sapp Roten. He served in the United States Army. He retired from Sprague Electric Manufacturing Company. He also enjoyed farming, it was always a lot of hard work but that was the one part of it, he loved. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beryl Elliott Roten on April 5, 2004. He is survived by a son, Ted Roten and wife, Kathy of Wilkesboro; four sisters, Irene Heck, of Pennsylvania, Ruby Absher, of West Jefferson, Vernie Blevins, of Lansing, Shirley Pierce, of Wentworth, NC; a brother, Russell Roten, of California; several nieces and nephews also survive.
