Dear Chris and family,
I just found out about Darrell. I am stunned. I know he called to check on and speak to Mom not long ago. It will not be Christmas without his cheerful phone calls or summer without his sincere invitations to family reunions.
In so many ways Darrell was a brother to me. I remember when he first came to work at the funeral home. Dad always said he was one of the best embalmers he ever knew. I remember when he and Chris lived at the funeral home with those cute little boys. I remember he and Chris coming to visit Mom and Dad at Claybank and talking about gardens and bringing handcarved candle sticks.
I especially remember Darrell's coming to be with Dad when he died. He told stories about their "young days" at the funeral home and helped us to remember precious happy times.
I feel that my world has grown much smaller today. I keep seeing his smile and hearing his voice. Know that we are thinking about you all and praying for you to have peace and happy memories.
Love,
Klyda and

Mr. Hoosier was my first boss for my first job at Lowe's Foods back in 1992. He set the bar high for a supervisor. He had the unique ability to be authoritative, concerned, fair, and genuinely happy. He made what could have been a menial job more fun and inspired me to take pride in what we did.
With all the employees he has had over the years, I am honored that he always remembered me. I will carry my fond memories with me always.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Chris, I cannot tell you how close Darrell was to me. He is the closest to a brother I have ever had. I have so many fond memories of building sod ponds behind his house on Rich Hill, and playing ball in the bottom. I remember how we would go up to the old house in the hollow and roll cigars out of the left tobacco leaves on decoration day. We would all turn green. Many memories while you and Darrell were dating and your brother, Dennis and I were also best friends
But most importantly, Darrell acted as a rold model to me while we were young as well as when be both became older. We were fellow Gideons and Darrell never failed to tell me how there would be no pain and suffering where we were going someday.
Judy and I want to convey our deepest sympathy to you and your kids. We will see you tomorrow.

The Elliott Family has lost a most precious friend, Darrell Hoosier. Our memories go back to school days, when Darrell drove our school bus. Sundays spent playing ball with the Elliott boys and other Rich Hill friends. We at Rich Hill Church loved when he attended worship service with us. He loved and enjoyed it as much as we did. He was a very SPECIAL person. We will miss his visits to the old homeplace. We know he has gone to his Heavenly home where there will be no more pain or death. We are looking forward to the day when we will see his smiling face again
gain. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you family in the days ahead.

He was more alive than many people we know. A kind, loving
soul who never met a person he didn't like.
We feel really blessed to have met and gotten to know him although to our saddness it was
a short-lived friendship.
His face always had a smile on it as did his heart.
God must have needed an experienced gardener with a good soul -- and called up
the best one he could find in North Carolina.
Darrell is now tending God's
heavenly garden.

Darrell was a year behind me in school. I remember him as a quiet nice young man. His sister, Pearl, was a wonderful friend to my mother, Ruth Bare. My sympathies and prayers are with the family in their loss.

To Darrell's family, you have my heartfelt sympathy. When he came to our dental office, it was more like a visit instead of an appointment. He would so fondly speak of his family, his love of gardening, the wonders of Ashe County, but most importantly his true faith in Jesus Christ. He was such an humble spirit. I will truly miss him but I know now he is at his perfect eternal home.

We were sorry to loose Darrell from this world but truly rejoice in where he is today! If ever we were sure where one of our brothers in Christ is it is Darrell. He walked, talked, and lived for the Lord he so loved. Our prayers are with his entire family. We can't begin to imagine your pain. May the God that he so wonderfully lived for bless you all in the coming days.

Chris,
I just learned of Darrel's passing; to say that I am stunned is an understatement. I feel as if I have lost my big brother, so many key memories of my youth include his presence. It was not Christmas until Darrel called, and a summer never passed without seeing him again. I cannot express to you how much we all loved and respected him. What a kind and gentle man he was to everyone in his presence, his life a testiment to his faith. We lost him much too soon. None of us is promised tomorrow but we are promised eternity and I take comfort in knowing that Darrel, Lillard and J.D. are together again.
I regret that I am working in Europe and could not attend the service, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
May your memories of a life well lived comfort you at this time.
Sincerely,
Jim Boone
