Obituary of Robert Darrell Hoosier
Darrell Hoosier, age 68, of Dobson NC, died Saturday August 27, 2011, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem NC.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 30 at 11:00am at the Salem Baptist Church in Dobson NC with Pastor Dr. Bobby Lewis and Elder Greg Simmons officiating. A graveside services will follow at 5pm at Sapp Family Cemetery, on the 1613 Willie Walker Rd in Creston NC.
Mr. Hoosier was born in Ashe County on July 26, 1943 to Lillard Quincey and Laura Walker Hoosier. He was married May 5, 1960 to Helen Christina Arnold. He was employed at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of West Jefferson for seven years, and worked for Lowes Foods for 36 years. He was a member for the Gideon's International, the Lions Club, and Salem Baptist Church of Dobson where he served as a Sunday school teacher, and worked with the Katrina Storm Relief with the NC Baptist Builders Disaster Company.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Helen Christina Hoosier; three sons, Danny Hoosier and wife Karen of Mount Airy, Gary Hoosier and wife Teresa of Pilot Mountain, and Jeff Hoosier and Holly of Ararat, NC; two brothers, Joe Hoosier and wife Josephine of Jefferson, and Delbert Hoosier and wife Joann of Delaware; two sisters Pearl Brown and husband Bill of West Jefferson, and Tressie Calhoun and husband JD of Creston; six grandchildren ;Nicholas Hoosier, Corey Hoosier, Jordan Hoosier, Logan Hoosier, Jonah Hoosier, and Leah Fincannon; three great-grandchildren; Abigail Hoosier, Hayley Hoosier, and Preston Hoosier; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hoosier also preceded in death by a brother, William Dale Hoosier; sister, Arlene Ashley, Judy Hoosier, and Pauline Hoosier.
Flowers are accepted at Jo Jo's Flowers and memorials made to the Gideons International and Salem Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Monday August 29, 2011at 6:00-9:00pm at Salem Baptist Church in Dobson NC.
