Obituary of Jo Anne Poe
Mrs. Jo Anne Dishman Poe, age 69, of Jefferson passed away Wednesday morning, December 7, 2011 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Greer, Rev. Russell Sheets and Elder Steve Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Poe was born in Ashe County on Saturday, September 19, 1942 to the late Glen and Fannie Woodie Dishman. Jo Anne worked different jobs through life. She started out at Hane's, later she worked as a County Mapping Supervisor and as a County Appraiser. She was the first to develop a GIS Mapping System in the state. She served on the board of New River Soil & Water Conservation for over 20 years. Jo Anne was active in our community but never lost time to be with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a master of crocheting and loved to listen to country music. She also taught Sunday school at Sugar Tree Baptist Church, where she was a member.
She is survived by her husband, Kent Poe; two daughters, Jennifer Gilbert, of Laurel Springs and Kelly Vannoy and husband, Mark, of Jefferson; two sons, Chad Poe and wife, Janie, of Jefferson and Shawn Poe and wife, Susan, of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Sherman Gilbert, Mallory Vannoy, Laci Poe, Maggie Knight, Hunter, Knight, Staton Knight and Carson Knight; several nieces & nephews also survive.
The family will be meeting at the home at 1756 Frank Dillard Road, Jefferson, NC 28640.
