All the praise to Jesus, and comfort to the whole family, is that, although Uncle Ron's earthly tabernacle has passed away, he's still very much alive! May we all take consolation in the Victory!

IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO GROW AN OLD FRIEND ~ This adage is printed on a neck pillow we have had in our home for some time. Above the lettering is an artist’s depiction of two well-worn tattered & patched teddy bears snuggled beside each other, both wearing a comfortable - I like you too - grin.
Although I never knew Ron in his more responsive days, I only have to be around Doris, Wayne, Margie or Marty to instantaneously know that I would have thoroughly enjoyed the company of Ron.
To the kids I will say, that by pulling together to honor your Dad you have rendered honor and deference to your Mother as well. It has long been said: “Character is better caught than taught. It’s obvious that Ron and Doris were good examples.
Humor, laughter, and an occasional story from Wayne, permeate conversations,
making the seriousness of the present moment more bearable, further cementing the family bond even more during this difficult time.
Frequently Ron would watch intently as I did “Honey Do’s around the house. When sharing this with Doris and the kids I discovered that Ron was a well accomplished Jack-of-all-trades in his own right, and would have relished tinkering on projects right along side of me.
The last few days an occasional tear or clearing the throat has been found almost as frequently with myself as the family, as fond memories of Ron or my own father sparked conversations. For me, being in the home the last few months has brought long needed healing to the abrupt passing of my Dad from a coal mining accident when I was fifteen. Sharing this treasure with the family has served to cement our growing friendship.
While talking with Marty this past week about the bond I now feel with the family, the quote “It takes a long time to grow an old friend came to mind. Immediately I found myself explaining that this is not always true. In a relatively short period of time I have gone from being a total stranger to feeling like I am part of the family. A job became a privilege. This is truly a serendipitous gift of Providence … a life-long treasure!
It has been a blessing to supply a small measure of Ron’s needs.

Doris,
You and Ron have always been special people to me. As a college student far away from home, you took me in and made me feel welcome and less homesick. I will always remember the kindness you showed to me. Ron was a wonderful man and he will be missed by many. Know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey Pappy,
In your last months of life on this earth, I regularly said I will see you tomorrow or talk to you tomorrow. I will see you and talk to you again but the amount of time until that tomorrow is unknown to me. I know it will be a joyous occasion. We Love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!
