Contributions to the tribute of Frank Levern Combs

Frank served in the Engineer Corp during the Allied invasion of France and Germany in WW2. He built bridges and supported ground troops against the Nazi regime. Frank was a big TW Andrews football fan as well as an NC State supporter. He was a star athlete at Ashe County High School in the early 40s since he won most of the track events and played lineman in football. I was fortunate to meet Frank in the 1980s in Ashe County and then lived on the same street for 10 years in High Point. He was quick to offer a helping hand because when I was building a lean-to shed he held the 2x4s while I attached the roofing. He cared about children and only offered advice when asked. He was one of the members of the "greatest generation". We will miss seeing him but his legacy will last especially to his grandchildren who he cared about deeply. Somewhere on the other side, the "Lily Pad" is smiling at you Frank. May God bless and comfort your family.

Frank was a great friend of our family. He was my Dad's football buddy. They enjoyed many a trips to NC State Wolfpack football games. Frank was such a friendly, kind, "would do anything for you" person. He will be missed. Linda Freeman Marshburn

Gail, Mrs. Combs and family: I'm so very sorry to hear of your lose. I will always remember Mr. Combs as an avid TW Andrews fan. He loved for us girls to get together and enjoy the horses. A while back I ran into him at the mall and he could not brag enough about those grandsons. It was obvious from his words and smiles that he loved his family very much!
