Obituary of Mary Nell Weaver

Mrs. Mary Nell Miller Weaver, age 84, of West Jefferson passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday morning December 17, 2012 at her residence in West Jefferson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Smethport United Methodist Church with Rev. Margaret Wannemacher officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Smethport United Methodist Church prior to the service. Mary Nell Miller Weaver was born in Ashe County on June 26, 1928 to the late George Attison and Mae Calloway Miller. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Miller, Harry Lee Miller; two sisters, Georgia Bryant, Hazel Hodges. Mary Nell devoted her life to making a loving and nurturing home for her husband of 63 years, Tom and their two sons. She succeeded wonderfully, especially so with the challenges in relocating her family accommodating the assignments of her husband's military career. All who knew her loved her bright smile, fun-loving sense of humor and her ceaseless caring and generosity for those in need. Mary Nell stubbornly resisted the ravages of Parkinsons for the last 10 years of her life, with the loving and capable assistance of her son Joel, his wife June and a host of dedicated caregivers and relatives. A devout Christian all her life, she has joined her beloved father and mother and those siblings who passed before her. Friends and family are asked not to mourn her passing but to celebrate the life well lived. Mrs. Weaver is survived by her husband, John Thomas "Tom" Weaver of West Jefferson; two sons, Michael Weaver and wife Cathy of Catawba, Joel Weaver and wife June of Jefferson; a brother Jim Miller and wife Aimee of West Jefferson; three sisters, Sallie Scott of West Jefferson, Silver Abernathy of Drexel, NC, Betty Monroe and husband Warren of Upper Black Eddie, PA; two grandchildren, Zack Weaver, Amy Weaver; a step grandchild, Jill Gambill, and two step-great grandchildren, Hope Gambill and Zoe Gambill. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Smethport United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1022, West Jefferson, NC 28694
