Mrs. Dorothy Starnes Clayton, age 85, of Jefferson, passed away Thursday morning, January 8, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Casey officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Clayton was born in Union County on Sunday, September 9, 1923 to the late Eli Starnes and Annie Clawson Starnes. She was a Homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Clayton on April 1, 2003; three brothers, Warren Starnes, Jerome Starnes and Randolph Starnes; three sisters, Vera Walker, Edna Drake and Ruby Richardson; three half-sisters, Hazeline Starnes, Eunice Starnes and Mildred Starnes McCain. Mrs. Clayton is survived by three sons, Joseph Stephen Clayton, of Jefferson, David Carroll Clayton of Charlotte and Ronald Lawrence Clayton and wife, Denise, of Charlotte; three daughters, Beverly Clayton Snyder and husband, Tommy, of Fleetwood, Barbara Clayton Huddler and husband, Mike, of Jefferson, Georgia and Janet Elaine Goodman and husband, Barry, of Todd; three brothers, Reece Starnes of Waxhaw, NC, Marion Starnes of Lancaster, SC and Johnnie Starnes of Waxhaw, NC; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
