Mrs. Ruth Pennington Roten, age 80, of Creston passed away Tuesday night, April 2, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Graveside services will be Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Saturday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Roten was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, February 14, 1933 to the late Clint and Lillie Jones Pennington. She was a member and the church treasurer of Big Laurel Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glyda Joyce Roten on July 12, 1997; a son, Donald Roten; two sisters, Pearl Coldiron and Zina Farmer; two brothers, Arvel Pennington and Lowell Pennington Mrs. Roten is survived by a son, Jeff Roten and wife, Angie, of Mountain City, TN; two daughters, Pat Roark and husband, Lester, of Creston and Melissa Johnson and husband, William, of Creston; two brothers, Blaine Pennington and wife, Sybil of Delaware and Bobby Pennington, of Delaware; two sisters, Ella Baldwin and husband, Dale, of West Jefferson and Rosa Belle Miller, of Jefferson; three grandsons, Derek Roark, Ryan Roark and Elic Johnson; two granddaughters, Ashley Roten and Emeney Johnson; three great-grandsons, Caleb Mahala, Bo Roark and Zachari Roark; two great-granddaughters, Caitlyn Scott and Haley Brown; several nieces and nephews also survive.
