Rev. John Duvall posted a condolence
Tender, treasured memories are powerful sources of human joy. Recalling my own Rich Hill roots begins about 1941, specifically, with the funeral of David Graybeal, Civil War veteran and beloved family patriarch. In time John married Betty, and thus into this long line of noble souls. Professionally, John was known for his fairness as an IRS auditor. Personally, two quick memories among many others: 1)When John was elected Master of Charlotte Lodge AF&AM, I was so proud to attend and note the skill with which he presided in the elegant, historic old Temple on Tryon Street. I remember he especially loved the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford; and 2)At the dedication of the beautiful new Harrison UMC at Pineville, John and Betty honored me as my only blood kin who attended. I recognized them, with joy, from the pulpit. Now John's moved "to that house not made with hands, in an undiscovered country, from whose borne none have returned to tell what lieth beyond." By this means I wish to send my heartfelt sympathy and love to Betty, Mark, Leigh Ann and Ginny--and to all in their dear families. May God comfort and bless! John Duvall, retired pastor, 313 Mt. Zion Rd. Elk Creek, VA

I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3,4 states “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. Hope these words give you a new
hope.

I'm sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. I've known him since 1969, when I moved to Charlotte. I remember when he lived in Shannon Park and drove that Orange VW. We both worked for the IRS. Many years ago we played golf together a few times.
I have good memories of Johnny, and I am sure that you have many good memories that will keep him alive in your hearts.

Dear Betty and family,
Sandra called this week to let me know that John had passed away. I have had a heavy heart since. I remember as a child I would sometime spend the night with dear Curt and Velma in their house on Woodberry. At that point, John and Dave were both away from home, so even though I didn't spend time directly with the guys, I would listen to Velma talk about them and study their photographs, in awe of my 2 "grown up" cousins. Later, when I was a teen, I remember visiting Betty and John for a weekend in their apartment in Raleigh. Mark was an adorable baby and I had so much fun playing with him and being included in my cousin John's family. I also recall many holiday dinners at your house off Shamrock, listening to John's stories and wry humor. Who could ever forget his great laugh. John was a wonderful man. I have always had the utmost respect for him. Over the years life has taken us all in different directions, but I consider myself so blessed to be his cousin and have had special times with him, and you all. You are in my, Phil and Matthew's thoughts and prayers. I trust God's love manifest through family and friends will sustain you during this sad time. I believe we will all be together again one day. Love, Sherry
