Obituary of Wayne Finley
Mr. Wayne Finley, age 89, of West Jefferson passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 2013 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Goodman and Rev. Steve Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm on Friday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Finley was born in Ashe County on September 21, 1924 to the late Jack and Lockie Brooks Finley. He was a Cattle & Tobacco Farmer. The last 10 years before retirement Wayne worked for BROC. When Wayne was younger he was a Fox Hunter; he also enjoyed listening bluegrass music. After retirement, he would visit Hardee's every morning and then he would go out to Ashe Services for Aging for the day.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Rex Slagle and a brother, Carl Finley.
Mr. Finley is survived by a son, Joe Slagle and wife, Myleia, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Sheila Slagle, of Lansing; a step-daughter, Margie Roten and husband, Jerry, of West Jefferson; a brother, Worth Finley, of Lansing; a sister, Faye Dixon, of Pennsylvania; three step grandchildren, Beverly Ward, Bradley Miller and Tyler Roten; two step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
