Obituary of Thelma Roselle Woods
Mrs. Thelma Wyatt Woods, age 83, of Lansing passed away Saturday morning, November 30, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was diagnosed with cancer a year ago but the word cancer didn't scare her. She faced it with courage and dignity.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Wyatt Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Woods was born in Ashe County on Monday, September 1, 1930 to the late David and Bertha Ham Wyatt. She retired from Sara Lee. If you were around Thelma very long you would know where she stood politically. She had a great sense of humor and quick wit. A hard worker, always taking pride on herself by saying she could out work any of her kids. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, spent her winters making yo-yo quilts. Thelma was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church and loved the Lord. She loved preparing Sunday dinners for her family. She was the "Peace Maker." She would say "it's bad now but it will get better." She will be remembered for her apple pies, chocolate gravy, and dried apple stack cake. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and will be missed by everyone.
She is survived by three daughters; Bonnie Woods of Lansing, Nancy Miller and husband Lloyd of West Jefferson, and Robin Brown and husband Jerry of West Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Frank Hurley and wife, Katrina, Greg Richardson, Angie Greene, Scott Hurley, Cindy Shatley and husband, Kevin, Amy Keys and husband, Greg and Nikki Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Chance Shatley, Alexa Shatley, Brittney Hurley, Ethan Hurley, Kebrina Keys, Valerie Keys, Carson Keys, Courtney Greene and Mason Brown; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
