Mrs. Patsanna Phillips Cope, better known as "Ann" age 78, of Jefferson, passed away Friday night, January 10, 2014 at Margate Health & Rehab Center, Jefferson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 one hour prior to the memorial service. Mrs. Cope was born in Avery County on Monday, December 2, 1935 to the late Frank Wilson and Henrietta Thompson Phillips. After graduating from Crossnore High School, Ann attended Appalachian State Teachers College where she received her Bachelor and Masters Degrees. She was a passionate bowler, and an active Lady Shriner of the Ashe County Shrine Club. Ann enjoyed spending hours outdoors "digging in the dirt" in her flower gardens. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by all. She is survived by: her husband, Albert Reeves Cope, better known as "Sonny" of 60 years; three sons, Frank Reeves Cope and wife, Jasmine, of Raleigh, Dennis Phillips Cope and wife, Pam, of Raleigh and Albert "Mark" Cope and wife, Betsy, of Raleigh; a brother, Frank Phillips, Jr. better known as "Bud", of Spruce Pine, NC; three sisters, Rita Todd, of Whiteville, NC, Jane Powell, of Asheville and Susie Loven, of Afton, TN; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephew also survive. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to: Shriner's Children Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Nathans Creek Methodist Church, 422 Nathans Creek Road, Crumpler, NC 28617.
