Mrs. Rhumell Ashby Ball, age 66, of West Jefferson passed away Saturday night, February 28, 2009 at her residence. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11am at the West Jefferson First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery. A gathering of friends will be held on Tuesday from 9:00-10:30 prior to the memorial service at the church. Mrs. Ball was born in Ashe County on Saturday, July 4, 1942 to the late Robert Jackson and Cora Zella Blevins Ashby. She worked in the Ashe County School System as a Teachers Aide. She is survived by her husband, Ray Ball; two sons, Mark Ball and Nic Ball of West Jefferson; a daughter, Beth Ball of West Jefferson; two brothers, Chrysler Ashby of Greensboro and Russell Roten of California; five sisters, Bobby Sue Miller of Parkesburg, PA, Billy Dare Testerman of Laurel Springs, Juanita Jordan of Abingdon, VA, Dianne Ashby of Centerville, VA and Shirley Pierce of Reidsville; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
